Silver Plated Bracelet
Roots is machined out of solid 304 stainless steel and plated in gold or silver. The bracelet is engraved, using my grandmother’s handwriting, with two numbers and the product name Roots on the internal surfaces. The two numbers are the square roots of the longitude and latitude of my childhood home–ensuring you will always carry your roots with you no matter where you go. Just like my family, each number consists of 6 significant figures.
DEVELOPMENT
Unisex Design
It was important for me to develop a unisex design to create a piece of jewelry that would unify my entire family. The design is intended a looser fit for females than males, with additional flexibility to alter the fit because of the ductility of stainless steel
Engraving
I traced my grandmothers handwriting in Illustrator and cut it out in vinyl. The vinyl was transferred and border was padded with nail polish before the metal was etched away with ferric chloride
